Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengenjinja Shrine ~ Fuji World Heritage Constituent assets
Originating as the place of worship where the god Asama no Okami was enshrined, the Fujisan torii gate was erected in 1480, and the main building of Sengen Shrine was completed in the mid 16th century. It had a strong link to the Fujiko sect, and in the 1730s repair work was carried out on its structures with donations from Fujiko leader Kosei Murakami, laying the foundation for the scenery of the compound as it appears today.
